We advocate for a media ecology grounded in circulation, sharing, and the commons, rather than the constant production of new and exclusive content. CENSORED sees culture as a constellation of relationships that are continually brought back into connection.

Our work is about making these circulations visible, bringing forgotten histories and references back into motion, and creating connections between cultures and perspectives that do not always meet.

Because bringing knowledge into relation is also a way of producing knowledge.

From 2018 to 2024, CENSORED took the form of a biannual print magazine bringing together emerging feminist and queer creative voices.

With 11 issues printed in the thousands and distributed through hundreds of bookstores, Censored documented emerging arts, culture, and contemporary thought through a feminist and queer lens. Founded in 2018 by Apolline and Clémentine Labrosse, the magazine also brought together the work of Maria Tasso and Isabella Utria Mago, alongside that of hundreds of artists.

Rooted in a DIY, curatorial, and experimental approach, each issue transformed the magazine into a singular conceptual object. Somewhere between a precious art object and a zine, Censored embraced a high degree of editorial freedom: each issue explored a different relationship between form and content — from treasure hunts and parodies of administrative reports to inserts and double-sided formats — alongside bold graphic choices, such as the use of inclusive glyphs and ever-changing layouts. Each edition, printed in France, brought together high-quality papers with varied textures.

The publications combined literary, poetic, fictional, and theoretical texts with the reactivation of forgotten and disappearing archives, with the aim of nourishing contemporary thought and expanding the imagination.

CENSORED was entirely reimagined as a digital editorial platform by Isabella Utria Mago and Clémentine Labrosse.

Isabella Utria Mago (she/they) is a Colombian artist, editor, and researcher based in Madrid. Working at the intersection of writing, experimental publishing, sculpture, and installation, her practice weaves together dialogues between materiality, symbolic systems, hybridity, the body, and memory. She is interested in how objects, gestures, and words hold traces — of passing time and of belonging as it takes shape.

Clémentine Labrosse (she) is an editor and journalist based in Saône-et-Loire, France. In 2018, she co-founded the feminist art magazine Censored with Apolline Labrosse, followed in 2023 by éditions trouble, a publishing house placing emerging artists at the heart of its programme. Through her research, writing, and editorial projects, she explores publishing practices from a feminist perspective, bringing together different ways of challenging dominant narratives through art, literature, theory, and media practices.
